Failed to install the Extension Pack
C:\..\..\Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.1.2-73509.vbox-extpack
VBoxExtPackRegister returned VERR_VERSION_MISMATCH, pReg=00000000 ErrInfo=' VirtualBox version mismatch - expected 4.1 got 4.0' .
===========================================
The version I use is 4.1.2 for Windows Host.
There's got no error the first time I install it.
But I install the 3.1.2 version and 2.x.x version after.
Then at last I reinstall the 4.1.2 version. But Usb 2.0 can not be used anymore.
So I decide to reinstall the Extension Pack and it show the error.
============================================
Can anyone help me ?

VirtualBox version mismatch - expected 4.1 got 4.0'
This indicates a mismatch between the running version of VirtualBox and the Extension Pack you are trying to install.
In the main VirtualBox Manager (GUI) click help and about and see if the installed version is 4.1.2 for sure.
If they match then reboot the host and try again.

Tried again and again. 4.0.12 isn't it the same with 4.1.2???
Why can't 4.0.12 update.

Extension packs were introduced in VirtualBox v4.0.0. If you revert your VirtualBox program to v3.x or v2.x then you cannot install extension packs.
In v3 and earlier the following applied: USB 2.0 support was not in an extension pack - it was built into the main VirtualBox application, but only in the closed source precompiled version. If you downloaded the prebuilt "PUEL" executable version of VirtualBox, from the official download site (not from a Linux repository), then it came with USB 2.0 support. If you compiled the VirtualBox OSE (Open Source Edition) version yourself, or downloaded a precompiled version of same from a Linux repo then it did not include the closed source USB 2.0 support.
So. If you have a problem with the USB implementation in v3.x or earlier then you are either using the OSE version, or else your problem is not caused by missing USB 2.0 support.
ps. To avoid further confusion, please run the VirtualBox application, and show us a screenshot of the Help|About dialog box, which shows the main VirtualBox version number.

No, it isn't. 4.0.x and 4.1.x are totally separate minor versions.
Either install VirtualBox 4.1.2 (the latest version) to install the extension pack you downloaded, or grab the 4.0.12 extension pack from the VirtualBox download page where it says "If you are using VirtualBox 4.0.12, please download the extension pack
here."

Why the 4.0.12 version can not automanticly update to the newest version when I press the "check for updates " button?
