Hi all-
First, thanks for all the great posts and discussions in the forum - using them and the user manual I was able to get my VM up and running in a short period of time.
The problem I am having seems to relate to my ethernet card. I installed 4.0.12 r72916, installed Win XP Home then used a 32-bit Win 7 upgrade disk, and found that I could not find any network, get online, see my shared host folder, etc.
I created a new machine and ran through the whole setup again, but before running the Win 7 upgrade I ran Microsoft's upgrade compatibility tool which said my ethernet card was incompatible. Not only did this surprise me, I was even more surprised that there didn't seem to be any chatter online anywhere (here or via Google search) about other iMac users having the same issue. Seems to me if it really was a hardware problem there'd be at least one or two other people posting about this stupid problem.
I did, of course, try searches for this topic but found nothing.
Other than replacing my ethernet card, which I am not inclined to do, any suggestions? Anyone else seen or heard of this issue?

The OS in a vm cannot see the physical card in the host machine. It sees the emulated card in the vm. You can choose between several options in the machine settings of the vm (while the vm is shut down). By default VirtualBox uses the Intel PRO/1000 MT for Windows 7, so I would try using that.

Wow, BIIIG, you just saved me hours of trouble and frustration, though I spent a good hour of (apparently poorly executed) searches before posting. I assumed, because the Upgrade Advisor said my card was incompatible with Windows 7, and because I didn't remember having to customize the settings last time I set up VB, that this wasn't going to work.
I re-read section 3.2 of the user manual and set this up and it's connected - THANK YOU!
