Windows 7 portable?

I was thinking that through virtualbox usb detection, I can install windows 7 on my external HDD and somehow attach a GUI to it and have it boot up windows 7 on whatever computer. I'm too impatient for windows 8 to come out (although I found a site that allows me to get windows 8 on an 16gb usb that's portable)
Any thoughts?

Usb won't be fast or reliable enough, eSata or firewire does work fine.

so if I had a firewire cable or even thunderbolt (cos I have a macbook pro) it would work?
would I be able to boot up from the windows 7 disk and then somehow get it onto an external?
anybody have a way to add a BIOS to an external?

You store the .vbox or .xml-vdi files on the external drive, make sure the path is the same on all Hosts.

I'm not trying to put a .vbox file on my external.... *sigh* just forget it...
I have a new question for you guys. How can you make an external hard drive partition detect as a flash drive on virtualbox?

New problem, new thread. Has nothing to do with original post, wrong title.

Is W7 bootable from removable device?
Anyway, USB is fast enough, I use a W7 Ultimate installation from an external HDD for daily work.
I have a self made portable VirtualBox on the HDD, I just attach my HDD to a computer, I start the VirtualBox and I use what I want.
Portability is so great feature, I don't know, why is not supported officially.
