In the Settings > General > Advanced do you have Bidirectional selected for the shared clipboard?

Are you using Microsoft Office in the guest and trying to copy data from one of those applications to the Mac? There was a post earlier where someone mentioned that they were not able to copy data from Excel on the guest to the Mac host, but that Notepad worked.

Well, duh. If you both bothered to read the User Manual, you would know that files don't work. Only text can be copied.

@FrancisJaques,

You will not be able to c/p any file using the bidirectional clipboard.
If you select some text in a browser or text editor and then use the copy and paste to the other text editor, does this work?

I just COPYed a bunch of text from MAC TextWrangler, then PASTEd it into a file on my WinXP Guest.
I too thought that did not work, but was happily surprised it worked (about an hour ago).

I cannot use Ctrl-C under the WinXP Guest, because that key sequence is assigned to something else, but using the right-click-Copy and Right-click-Paste under WinXP works just fine.

yes i can copy paste within the windows host, no problem.

but i wouldn't have asked this question about the possibility of copying between mac en windows host, because my collegue CAN do it.
but he' has LION and i have SNOW LEOPARD

so, i don't know if it could have something to do with that?

im glad youre one of the lucky one's!
what version of mac do you have?
perhaps its a snow leopard issue..

I'm running 10.7.x and -- with 4.1.4 -- I still can not copy *from* Excel 2010 in Windows 7 to the Mac.

I can copy from the Mac *to* Excel 2010, though -- just not the reverse.

Word 2010 copy/pasting works both ways.

Just a quick one here.

I had it set on bidirectional from the start but it never worked (I'm on 10.6.8 Snow Leopard as well)...until right now! Here's what I did:

1) On the guest VM I installed guest additions. It went through a few warnings that some things may not function on Win XP but I continued anyway.

2) Rebooted Virtual Box after the install but I wanted to double check the settings to make sure 'Bidirectional' was turned on, so I turned it off.
Also ticked all the other check boxes including mini-toolbar.

3) Rebooted again and voila!

I am now able to copy and paste back and forth between both machines.

Hope this helps.
