Hi,
I have a dual-boot pc, and i'm trying to load my xp from my linux.
i did the following steps:

1. create an vmdk file for my hard drive: 2. create a new virtual machine using this vmdk file in the VB gui.

3. start the virtual machine. i got my grub loader and i choose the windows.
the windows always stuck during the loading.

4. tried to load the windows with safe mode and it always stuck on the same line: any idea how to fix it?

There's virtually no way to transform a real OS in virtual OS.
This line says that Windows is trying to load Mup.sys driver.

I understand the line, the problem with windows is that the kernel is change during the installation for your specific hardware (not really changed, but change the sets of the kernels modules).

My question is if there any way to change the hardware profile of the virtual machine (irq numbers, and so on...) to allow the windows start.

I know i can fix this problem by running the windows recovery console that comes with the windows installation - but then, i will not be able to start the windows normally.

The problem: VirtualBox don't have BIOS setup.
Example: If you want to change guest time bypassing the guest OS, you'll need to change the time offset using VBoxManage. This is a bit hard to calculate, you need to start by calculating the number of days from today to desired date.

I am pretty certain it can be done ...

... there are simply some system tweaks that must be done to windows.
This could be done permanently (within Windows) but it may compromise the dual boot system especially ITO the 3D graphics acceleration. Probably the best would be to script some file renaming while the Windows partition is mounted, then to unmount and start VirtualBox. On closing VBox the file naming is just reversed to restore the original system.

I run Linux most of the time, but sometimes it would be great if I can access Windows "Quickly" from Linux via VBox rather than rebooting. Besides the "seamless windows" option makes it really cool.
