Hello,

I try to have an VM with an installed XP guest and HPET enabled.

I know Windows XP by itself does not use the HPET, but I using a different driver to access the HPET.

I used the modifyvm command to enable the HPET, showvminfo also says that the HPET is enabled, but it cannot be found in the VM.

I am using VirtualBox 4.1.2 on a Windows 7 64 bit host.

Thanks

The driver might be looking for a hardware resource a VM doesn't have. check the driver notes/manual to see if it meets the requirements.

when enabled HPET reports itself as PNP0103, Windows XP+ searches for this and lists it as a device available in the system.

Though Vbox supports the HPET timer (for use with NT6), it does not present its PNP id preventing it from being reported in the OS device manager.

This means little to the OS's that support HPET, as the driver is represented as a notice only, removing or toggling the device does not disable its functionality as the HPET timer is part of the ACPI kernel driver
