Kernel panic with a vmdk

Hello!
Well I wanted to ask you a question. I've downloaded a new version of an image from my university computers. It's a openSUSE, in a vmdk virtual hard disk. I had a previous version working fine in the virtual machine, but this new version says "kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill idle task!" on boot.
I've tryied some things but I can't run it well. Do anyone know if I can do something to solve this and use that image?

No help possible without details.
Suse Version, VBOX version, logfile, exact and full guest configuration?

Sorry you are right. I'm running VBOX 4.1.2.r73507. It's openSUSE 11.4 and the host is a windows 7.
I don't know where to find logfiles The guest configuration is the one that comes with a new machine, I only ticked the PAE option because it tolds me to do this.
I've tried the vmdk disk in ide, sata and scsi with different configurations.
Edit: I've found the VM log file.

What are the uni vmdk settings used? like vt-x/smp, more then 1 core, etc... the GPF is smp based.

I don't know if I understand you well, but I did not created the image so I don't know what are the settings in the vmdk, or how to see them. I've tried to put 2 processors, to disable the vt-x and some other things without a result.

Then ask the source what vmware settings are needed and then set them accordingly inside VBox.

Is there any other way to see it? I'm affraid they're going to say me to install vmware and nothing more. I'l try to know if anyone is using vmware, but all people I know is using virtualbox, so if I can know it by a different way, it would be easy for me.

He said it worked with the default VM settings creating a new one from a created hard disk. He finally changed to vmware because he usually use that. How can he list the devices?

Wll but the virtual machine is an OpenSuse guest, so I guess microsoft's link won't work.

Btw, this guest paniced on MWAIT so the reason is most likely the same as
here (see Michal's comment).
