Possibly a silly question.

Hello All,

I am trying to compile VirtualBox 4.1.2 on Slackware 13.37 and I'm bumping into all sorts of XWindows Dependancies. I was wondering if I could just compile the "NON Graphical" server parts of Virtual Box on the host server. I want to keep the server as clean as possible and don't wish to install XWindows.

I would rather run all the graphical parts on the control clients.

I was wondering if VirtualBox was like VMWare in regards to the Host Server process, where all the graphical stuff is either run on the client, or from a remote control workstation.

Thanks!

Why do you need a self compiled version?

There is a universal linux version.

Hey sunny_pat,
trying to compile VBox implies you are using the OSE version. For those types of questions you should look or post in the appropriate discussion group. You are more likely to receive qualified answers from there.

You may want to see how Debian did it, as they have the GUI in a separate package called VirtualBox-qt. Or switch to Debian instead ;).
