This doesn't compute. When you installed OS X on this computer and created the administrator account didn't you have to enter a password for the account?

A password is not required to sign on to my computer. Since I'm the only one who ever uses it, it didn't seem necessary.
It turns out that the uninstaller doesn't like a "blank" password. I added a password to my user ID and tried the uninstaller again, with success. Then reloaded Virtual Box 4.1.2 and the extension pack and things appear to be working OK. Thanks for your help along the way with this problem.

Often, simply deleting the saved state of your VM and restarting the VM from scratch will solve this kind of problem.
