Video Game LAN (Mac OSX host - Windows XP Guest)

Post by Legendman3 »

Ok so at my school me and some friends got virtual box (4.1.2) installed. We put Windows XP on and installed Unreal Tournament 1995. I then tried creating a LAN game but it would not show up for my friends (who were on the same network and had the same configuration as me since I set it all up). Do I have to do something special to get LAN working?

What network mode did you use in the guest settings? NAT? You would need to be in bridged mode (if your school even allows this transport on their network).

Ok found out what bridged mode is. I have full admin rights on guest and host so I think ill try doing that.

If your network admin is clued up it probably still will not work. Many networks are designed to prevent a user simply plugging a machine into the network, and that is effectively what you are trying to do. As far as the network is concerned, the vm is another computer.
