Hi all,
I have installed VB and am using a guest OS of W7. I would like the router to give out the IP address and have set the adapter to bridge ...however it does not work at all in bridged mode or any other mode...only NAT. I have attempted to set the ip etc.....
The version of VB I am using is 4.1.2 (downloaded today)

Set the guest to use bridged mode and in the guest set it to use dhcp. If you do not get an address on reboot then check for firewall issues or even some virus software that may block it.

I agree. If you have a router doing DHCP on the LAN, everything should be automatic. The guest should behave just like any other machine on the LAN. If it doesn't, use normal networking troubleshooting to see what is wrong. Is the guest getting an IP from DHCP? If not, does it work with a manually configured network config?

Fixed!!!!
This is what I did.
On Host machine SBS 2011 uninstalled the Host only adapter by right clicking on it under the connections payne in network and sharing center. Then I switched to the VM virtual box manager > settings > chose attached to: bridged adapter , Name: the adapter installed on the host machine > Ok > start Virtual Machine: Works perectly!!!
This is what I did.

Fine. You are aware of what you are doing running SBS in bridged mode? All machines on the LAN will be able to see the SBS server. Are you sure that is what you want?

Personally I would have used Internal to do a lab with. sbs in the local lan can cause problems if you don't know what you are doing.
But as you say this is a learning exercise and well there you have it.

Really not a big deal...Its a private lan I'm running it on (workbench at home not an office), so I jsut swap routers and hard drives....one of each ----- everyday normal work stuff (self employed) and one specifically for the learning.
It works and now that I have the VM client working properly it works really well! (thanks to VB...vm worksation booged down the server, froze - real pain in the tuckus)
