Crash and strange black screen with Windows 7 on Ubuntu 11

Post by eakawf21 »

Hello all, I'm getting a crashes after a few hours of inactivity with my Windows 7 guest on Ubuntu 11.04.

I am using ver 4.1.2 in seamless mode with dual screens, and after a few hours, the guest appears to hang. When I push CTRL+C to put it in scale mode, I see the following on the first screen:

At first I thought it may be a virus, but I cleared everything out and created a new VM with a fresh install of Windows 7 and it still happens.

After a bunch of searching, I have seen a few similar screens, but nothing under the same conditions. I've tried all kinds of settings but they dont' seem to make a difference.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

FWIW, I had the same experience -- once so far -- on a stable, Production Win7 x64 guest running on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit with an ext4 filesystem (in case that matters) on VirtualBox 4.1.2. This guest has been rock solid for months and now after about 12 hours of uptime a sudden freeze with a similar screen as eakawf21 attached above. I have only one monitor defined. This caused me major problems in restarting Win7. Could this be an issue with Vbox 4.1.2?

Almost the same here. Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 host, Win7 64 guest.
After the latest VBox update I installed the Aero support from guest additions. After that, as standard user I get a black screen. As admin I can work almost as usual, but IE9 is blank/black as well. Other browsers run.
I tried both other possibilities, i. e. installed no 3D driver at all and in safe mode classic 3D driver. Much worse, Windows did not start at all.
Any hope for a fix soon?
