Post by graysky »

Has anyone successfully gotta an ipad or ipad2 to be recognized within a windows guest? I have the extension pack installed but XP as a guest just doesn't see it.

I have my iPhone 3Gs on an XP VM without any issues. Make sure that you have USB2.0 EHCI enabled in the Guest and have iTunes installed. Then use the USB menu to give the device to the Guest.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have it setup as such, but my Linux host doesn't show the device as a USB device. I see it on my xfce4 desktop as a camera, but nothing that I can use with Virtualbox to allow windows in a VM to sync with it.

After I connect the thing:

Code: Select all

$ dmesg
[ 3643.417548] usb 1-3: USB disconnect, device number 6
[ 4056.739609] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device number 7 using ehci_hcd
Here is the relavent section from usb-devices:

Code: Select all

$ usb-devices

I get this in dmesg:

Code: Select all

[17828.910047] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6
[17829.180185] ipheth 1-4:4.2: Apple iPhone USB Ethernet device attached
[17829.180483] usbcore: registered new interface driver ipheth
Are you sure you can't select it from VB? Did you try to make a filter for it in the VM settings under USB?

Yes, nothing. Do you get anything mounted in your Linux DE?

I don't, because I don't have many of the packages responsible for that. I installed my system from the ground up, using the alternative installer and only installed the base system. From there I selected which packages I wanted to get a GUI and such. Even so, others did manage to get their iPhone in a VM with the full package installed.
Did you try the filter I suggested earlier? You can make it more general if you remove the Product and Vendor ID.

Problem solved by nuking ~/.Virtualbox and rebuilding.
