Hi,
I'm new to virtualbox - I have mainly used VirtualPC, Virtual Server, HyperV and a bit a VMware. I have an issue with cloned Win 7 guests - Normally I would copy the VHD and then run newsid on a XP or W2k3 instance and away I go. I have started using virutalbox and Win 7 clients. I managed to cloned the VHD etc (nice sheep) but I can't see how to go about re-writting the SID in Win 7. I hoped that the built-in cloning in Vbox would magically do something but of course it didn't lol. Now the issue am having I *think* is down to the cloning. Basically both the Win 7 clients keep picking up the same DHCP address from Windows 2008 DHCP server. Any ideas pls??
Many thanks, Adam

Ever heard of sysprep? Newsid is obsolete and should no longer be used. E.g. this will give you some more insights: http://serverfault.com/questions/69144/ ... -windows-7
Google results on the matter (newsid alternative): http://www.google.com/search?client=ope ... 8&oe=utf-8

Re: Cloned Win 7 problems
Two machines getting the same IP address would indicate that the NICs had the same MAC address. This is a different problem from the SID problem.

The "SID problem" being mostly myth. See here for discussion.BillG wrote:This is a different problem from the SID problem.
