Hello,

I'm in a big time jam... I loaded Window 7 64-Bit into VB (host OS is Lion) to use a particular piece of software for work. As i'm setting up my computer to work in the "windows world" world I was noticing that I can not get Windows to recognize my USB port... I tried to research and fix it my self but now I think I am making things worse. Below is a thread that I was trying to follow but got as far as #2. I already deleted the file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000} and cant go any further. I tried to find the the folder C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\USB\filter...but there is none. Under my VB Manager "settings" is grayed out and can't make any changes. If someone could please help I would appreciate any type of direction.

1. My Host is window 7 32bit home premium. But, 64bit's solution may be same because problem was caused by USB filtering function of WINDOW 7.

2. first of all, edit your registry

- Open the Windows registry, by clicking on Start > Run and typing regedit
- Navigate to the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}
- In the right hand panel, if the the UpperFilters entry exists, then delete it

3. Install virtualbox USB driver manually.

- Goto folder C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\USB\filter
- Click right mouse button on file named VboxUSBMon.inf
- Check Install(I) (maybe.. My window is korean so it dose not exact. )

4. Rebooting

5. Unplug your USB memory (or joystick..)

6. Open VirtualBox and Close it rightly.
( it will remove your USB device from VM's seized list. )

7. Plug your USB memory.

8. Open VirtualBox and Run Virtual Machine.

9. Click right mouse button on USB icon placed in status bar which is below VM window.

10. Check USB device what you want to plug in.

11. Enjoy !!

Hopefully you don't have to re-install Windows to fix the registry problems that this should have created.
Have you installed the Extension Pack? How to install Extension Pack
Also you need to release the USB device in a MAC before you can use it in the guest, but the first thing to do is get the VirtualBox main manager to see you even have USB devices.

Perryg, I really appreciate your response on this... Do I want to download the extension pack through my host enviroment (mac OS X 10.7.1) or through my guest enviroment (windows 7 64 bit) and which option shall I choose?

o VirtualBox 4.1.2 for Windows hosts x86/amd64
o VirtualBox 4.1.2 for OS X hosts x86/amd64
o VirtualBox 4.1.2 for Linux hosts
o VirtualBox 4.1.2 for Solaris hosts x86/amd64

My version of VB is 4.0.12 r72916

Also, are there any instructions out there on releasing USB devises on a mac?

The Extension Pack is installed on the host and enables a few extra items like USB2
You can get the Extension Pack for your 4.0.12 version here
