Yes I saw that in maintenance mode the mouse was able to work same as safe mode, but the logon screen nor the normal administrator mode works. So the only way to test/use this setup in VirtualBox is to RDP into the guest (not vRdp through the host). I am not 100% sure about vRdp because Windows crashed and corrupted the install after it updated itself. Needless to say I am not planning to re-install it again unless it is absolutely necessary.

Hey guys - thanks for all the input. I actually tried this under VMWare Workstation 7.1 - and the mouse works fine under that.
So maybe - this is something that will eventually work in a future version of VirtualBox?
I was preferring to use VirtualBox, but I may have to stick with VMWare for now.
Thanks for all the help though...

The system is designed to run under Hyper-V. Hyper-V guests by default run headless. Even if you start a session from within Hyper-V Manager (using connect to..) it uses RDP under the covers. For that reason RDP directly to the guest would be the logical way to run it in VirtualBox IMHO.

Everything seems OK except the mouse does not get recognized (we don't even get the mouse *pointer* within the guest).
I vaguely remember seeing the mouse pointer *before* installing Guest Additions (not 100% sure, but pretty sure) - but now I do not even get it to recognize the "mouse" - when I click into the Guest, I lose my mouse from the host!
Is this a known issue, or am I forgetting to do something? FYI I also do have the Extension Pack installed.
I know that Windows Multipoint Server 2011 is based off of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 - so the steps/issues (I assume) would be the same...?

Also, a few other things I noticed:
1. Under Device Manager (Guest), the mouse is shown as "Microsoft PS/2 Mouse" - even though I cannot get the mouse pointer to appear.
2. Under Safe Mode (Guest), the mouse exists/works!

Thanks for any help!
Yes, the mouse works fine without Guest Additions for me. It only fails if you install the additions.

Tried to install the Addition one-by-one and it is the video driver that is the problem, and WMS insist on this.

What's odd is that - under VMWare Workstation - I just realized that VMWare Tools doesn't seem to install for WMS2011... ? You have to press ctl+alt to get the mouse control out of the guest every time, and the guest display does not dynamically resize to the window size. Maybe that's why the mouse works under WMS2011? I'll have to look into this in a few days - but if anyone else knows anything about this, I'd appreciate any input (yes I know this is a Virtualbox site, so I don't expect anyone to know/respond :-)
I'm assuming VMWare Tools is not supported under WMS2011...

Since it is confirmed that WMS does not work with either virtualizers additions installed I think the next set should be obvious. Report it to bugtracker and let the DEVs figure out what needs to be done.

Yes, that is a good summary of how Multipoint Server works, but which of your questions does it answer, and how? None of that seems to refer to your mouse problem (except the fact that Hyper-V does not pass data through from the host, and that has already been discussed).

It tells us that yes, Multipoint Server works under a VM, but in that case, you have to use a RDP client to get mouse support. The only way to get mouse support on a local non-RDP connection is to not have it under a VM. So, it's confirming/validating what someone said earlier - just nice to find this from the "official" source. :-)

I updated to 4.2.2 -not good, the window got cut down to 2/3rds (the right was gone) and the mouse didn't work. It creates a trail of arrows and disapears as it moves very slowly. By playing with it, I found that in scale mode (I think), the mouse works. external ports did not work either but I was able to get that to work again and get my files off. Anyway, any idea what happened? I have updated numerous times without issue. I am using windows 7 64bt on both host and virtual machine. Oh, when I logged in orginally, it was as if the right side was a prompt and it said C- (like a c prompt)
