VirtualBox supports the VHD format, but your problem is with the contents of the drive, not the VHD form factor. My physical PC supports SATA drives - but that does not mean I can remove a SATA drive from any other PC, and expect the already installed OS, applications, and other content to work without problems in my PC. Of course if I don't need the data then I can always just reformat the drive, i.e. the drive itself is working perfectly.
As to what your real problem is, your guess is better than mine given that you have provided absolutely no information about it.

the vhd has no problem booting using virtual pc but does not boot using vbox
you are saying the problem is the drivers derived from another computer is making the problem but virtual pc has no problem booting the vhd used for vbox and virtual pc is using generic drivers are not?

If you move a boot image from one system to another it may not boot because the device drivers installed do not match. This is true whether the machines are physical or virtual.
The virtual machine config used by Microsoft is not the same as the virtual machine config used by VirtualBox. If you change the configuration of your VirtualBox vm to match the VPC config more closely your image may boot.

"configuration of your VirtualBox VM". i.e. the hardware recipe described by the VM settings.
