Installation on Win2008 host hangs

Post by hans.s »

I tried to install VirtualBox 4.1.2 (fresh download from virtualbox.org) PUEL on a host running Windows Server 2008 with SP2. The installer worked a while and when the progress bar hit the right end it stopped doing anything. I left it running over night and still no change. The GUI says: "Please wait while the Setup Wizard installs Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.1.2. This may take several minutes." The installer has not crashed, meaning it repaints the GUI when I move other windows, and I can minimize/restore the installer's window.
I clicked "cancel" after several hours and was asked to confirm whether I wanted to abort installation. I confirmed and nothing happened. Now when I click "cancel" I can see the button responding to the click but nothing happens beside that. I am hesitant to kill the installer process. Any advise?
Should I have turned off the anti-virus program before installation?

I had this problem and disabling the virus scanner (in my case Clam) fixed the hang issue on installation.
