Cannot Get Guest Win2kServers to speak to one another.

Hello,

I am a noob at this, but here is my question.

I have a Windows 7 host machine in which I have created two Windows 2008 Server Guest VM's using a Bridged LAN connection. My Host has a static IP address.
I can:
Ping my Guest VM's from my Host Machine
Ping my Host machine from my Guest VM's
Ping other Computers in my network from my Guest VM's

I CANNOT:
My Guest Computers cannot Ping each other and it is driving me crazy!
Any Ideas?

From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use "" if the name has a space in it. Do this for both guests.

Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

Keep in mind that ping is not a reliable way to test connectivity these days. ICMP is usually filtered by firewalls.

I turned off the Firewall to both machines and still was not able to PING or RDP.

Assuming that you have a router, (it looks like you are getting the proper information from dhcp)
I am still saying that the connection is being blocked. The Windows host firewall may be doing this or some virus software will cause connection issues.
Might even be a router firewall issue since you are using bridged.

I have uploaded a picture to this post of my firewall settings on my router. Is there anything there that you can see that may be causing a blockage. I will try disabling antivirus and host firewall to see what happens.

I attempted Disabling the antivirus on the Host machine. I have no antivirus on the two Win2008 Virtual machines. I also turned off both of their firewalls again to test. I tested both and both returned Host unreachable again.


Here is what my Network Map looks like. As you can see the picture clearly shows the SQL001 server could not be placed into the network with the Host and the other Guest. Its as if there is a Host-Only network setup with each VM and my WebServer Windows 7 host machine. This should not be the case because I clearly have both VM Network settings "bridged" like the one in the picture i provided. I would like to ask one question concerning a network Adapter called Host-Only Ethernet Adapter. Is this supposed to be here under my Host machines Network settings and enabled. I guess this is the adapter that plugs into the virtual machines when I bridge the connection or should this be disabled?

Just try setting up the two guests using Internal Network, this should hopefully help point you to where the problem lies.

If you are not going to need to use the host-only just disable it on the host.
I have seen the host-only adapter cause Windows 7 to have issues if it was not being used.
There is not reason to use Internal in your setup.

The host is having the issue for some reason. So on the Windows 7 host:
Open Network Diagnostics by right-clicking the network icon in the notification area, and then clicking Diagnose and repair.
see if it tells you what the issue is.

I just tried that and it could not find any problems with my connection. I am going to fire up two windows 7 Vm machines within my Windows 7 Host machine and see if I can get them to talk to each other under the same Vbox settings. I will let you know what I find out...

Did you clone one vm to create the second? The both seem to have the same MAC address for their NIC. This will kill any networking.
