Win 2008 64 bit, crashes after boot. Please help.

Post by stfarm »

I am about to have a panic attack. I have a Win 2008 guest that has been working fine for many month.
Now when I boot it, it crashes about 5 minutes after the boot. I have no indication why it crashes, it just goes down.
I will include the log files, maybe someone can please help me. I have ALL my work in this box. Starting over would take me weeks to get everything back.
All I did was upgrade the VirtualBox to the newest version 4.1.2.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Here are the logs: (I attached the vbox.log because it was too big to display here.)

You have to ask yourself what changed?
Other things to look at: host HDD space and Guest HDD space.
Look in the windows event viewer and see what Windows says. Have to be fast though if you only have 5 minutes.
If all you did was the upgrade then downgrade to the previous version.

I am also getting this error:
aRC=VBOX_E_INVALID_VM_STATE (0x80bb0002)
Host Win 7 X64
Guest Win 2008 R2 X64 Guest additions installed
Also, I get a message starting the VM
The virtual machine is optimized to work in 32 bit color mode but the virtual display is set to 24 bit.
In propertied of the virtual display it set to 32 bit true color.
Am I missing something somewhere?
TIA

There are ways to recover your data even if the virtualized O/S is failing. Of course, if you've spent a lot of effort configuring and installing software, that's not a lot of comfort.

For example, one option would be to install a clean copy of an appropriate O/S in another VM and have it mount the virtual disk used by the failing O/S as its second, data disk. You might want to consider copying the important files to a virtual disk which is in Windows vhd format, if only so it can be mounted directly by the host Win7 without needing to run a VM to extract files at a later date.
