Not able to reboot/shutdown Windows XP SP3

Post by thedavix »

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently using Virtualbox 4.1.2 r73507 on MAC OSX Lion 10.7.1.
I successfully installed Windows XP SP3 with all the updates, everything was fine till I installed the host add ons, now I'm unable to restart/shutdown Windows.. I simply hangs on the screen at the end after the shutdown/reboot message.
To close it I need to use VirtualBox menus to restart/stop the virtual machine.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Thanks,
David

See if disabling the absolute pointer in the guest settings resolves this for you.

Hi there, I have tried the same as you suggested - disabling mouse integration on my Windows XP SP3 virtual machine, but it still hangs on shutdown for me. I am running Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

Thanks...

@digitrance,
It is not disabling mouse integration that you need to do. disable the absolute pointer. in the guest settings -> System -> Motherboard. Look at the bottom.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually was able to solve the problem - apparently it was related to a corrupt AVG 2012 install. After removing and reinstalling AVG, the VM shuts down fine.

This issue should be fixed in version 4.1.4 of VirtualBox. Released (October 3rd, 2011)

Apparently not: I am using version 4.1.6 r74713 on top of openSUSE 11.4 and yet the problem persists.
However disabling the absolute pointer works also for me.

Did you also install the matching guest additions?

I've had the same issue - fixed in 2 ways; 1 - as you described, 2 - leaving the absolute option selected, but with 3D accel turned off!

I am not able to change the "Enable pointing device" setting. It is selected and disabled for editing. Not able to edit any settings. All are disabled. Need help.

The guest must be shut down to change these settings, not in a saved state or running.

I am trying to chnage these settings as guest is not shutting down fully. I am facing this problem after installing guest additions.
