Static Drive Letters for Mapped Shared Folders

Post by PaulWood »

Host: Linux Mint (Debian 4.5.3-4) 3.0.0.1-amd64
Guest: Windows-XP Pro, SP3
Virtual Box: 4.1.2 r73507

VB's Shared Folders works fine. However VB maps the shared folders to specific drive letters. How can I designate specific drive letters of my choosing for the mapped Shared Folders?

By not using the auto-mount feature and mounting the share manually. See 4.3.1 Manual mounting in your virtualbox users manual.
if you use the -p switch when you map the share it will be persistent.

@Perryg
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. However, the approach I took was a bit different than that which you suggested:

In VB Settings / Shared Folders / Edit Share:
  • Uncheck the "Auto-mount" checkbox
    Check the "Make Permanent" checkbox
Back in Windows-XP:
In My Computer / Tools / Map Network Drive:
  • Select the drive letter of my choice
    Browse to and select the shared VBoxsvr folder
    Check the "Reconnect at logon" checkbox
    Finish
That seems to work just fine. The "secret" was to remove the "Auto-mount" checkbox in the VB Settings.
