VirtualBox fails to create VM, no message

I downloaded VirtualBox (host system Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) and installed it with no problems. I read through the first part of the User Manual before doing anything (RTFM!). Launched VB, launched the New Virtual Machine wizard. It ran through the entire routine, then nothing. I waited several minutes to see if it would announce that the new VM had been created, but nothing happened. No VM was created, no error message was displayed, nothing. The directory that I had created for the VMs had been deleted. Any ideas?

Sounds like you just need to install the guest OS. What happens if you click start?

According to the User Manual, I should now see the VM in the list box at the left side of the Virtual Box UI. This list is empty.

Again according to the User Manual, when I try to start the VM for the first time, a different wizard will be launched to guide me through the installation of the Guest OS.

I would create it again and see what happens. It may have just been a fluke but who knows. Without being there and watching there is no way of telling.

I can see that I need to bring myself up to speed when posting to forums like this one. I didn't do a good job of telling the story in my previous posts.
I've already tried several times to create the VM and it has failed each time.

Just a few minutes ago, I decided to take a shot and try creating the VM one more time, but this time skipping the creation of the virtual disk image. BOOM! I now have a shiny new VM!

I'm sure that I will soon discover that creating the VM without setting up the virtual disk will lead to all sorts of headaches, but for now I'm happy.

Thank you very much for your assistance!
