I have just landed a job as a network admin for a 500+ user company.
The set up:
We have mobile users and telecommuters who use a Cisco VPN client to remote in . But the way they have it set up for the telecommuters seems hokie. They have physical workstations set aside in cubicles that no one can touch where each telecommuter remotes into via vpn and the ip of that particular machine.This is a complete waste of space and resources. I would like to take those workstations virtual on to one of my servers and have them remote in via server IP:port #. Can this work, and will my server be secure? I have tried using RDP but I can't get the keyboard to capture; I can get as far as the ctrl+alt+del screen and that's it. The mouse works, however it is not synced either, there are two cursors off set of one another. Thanks to all in advance.

I can't think of any reason why it would not work. I can't think of any reason why your server would be more or less secure - the remote users would be accessing the vms directly, not through the host machine.

You would need to run the vms' networking in bridged mode (so that the looked like physical machines on the LAN). Apart from that it should all work exactly as it did before. The networking software has no way to tell if a machine is physical or virtual. It is simply a IP or MAC address.
