My results for Windows Experience Index

Post by poulbak »

Have you ever seen a 'Windows Experience Index' for a Windows 7 guest?
Well, I had not until today, Winsat used to crash.
Trying the new beta version of VBox 4.1.1 I can now calculate the index, but only when running in windowed mode, in fullscreen Winsat still crashes.
Of course you must use the new 3D support, or you will always get a crash.

So, what is it?

Since my host is also Windows 7 64 bit (although 'pro' while guest is 'home)', it could be fun to compare the numbers.

Processor: Guest 5.9, host 6.2
Ram: Guest 5.9, host 6.2

Both quite impressive, I think

Graphic: Guest 5.4, host 6.7

Well, acceptable

3D: Guest 2,4, host 6.7

Ok, here's definately room for improvement!

Harddisk: Guest 6.8, host 5.9

What goes on here? Well, I think Winsat turns off the disk cache when testing, but of course only for the guest, while the host disk cache is still in operation. So this probable shows the effect of the host's disk cache.
Well, anyway, disk performance is fine.

Actually I was hoping for comments, especially about the 3D performance, which seems very low to me.
The value is 3 times bigger on the host (and the experience index is not even linear AFAIK).

Is that close to yours (and what I can expect) or is yours a lot better?

Please write what graphics card, you have, especially if you have ATI or NVidia.
Currently there are some issues, that seems to be ATI only, and I would like to know, if that included performance.

Ok, mine is ATI mobility Radeon HD 4650.

So, I guess, we can conclude, that performance is equal on ATI and Nvidia - and may be it's ALWAYS 2.3, no matter what physical card you have?
