Carriage Return in Description box?

OK, this has been bugging me for a long time (enough that I finally decided to register on the forum).
How do you enter a carriage return in the "Description" box (under the general settings). If I press "Enter", it simply activates the OK button and closes the dialog box. I figured out that I can type a multi-line description in a text editor and then paste it into the description area, but that seems very kludgy to me. Is there something simple that I'm missing?
