This is for discussing general topics about how to use VirtualBox.

OVF and MF file not being created on export?

Post by phumphrey »

VBOX: 4.0.2, 4.1
Host OS: XP SP3
Guest: OEL 5.5
VMDK applicance

on export of applicance, I check the boxes for generating the OVF and MF file, but nothing shows up in the directory where the OVA is generated.
I need to hand edit the OVF file, but since nothing is getting generated, I can't!

Any ideas? is there a hidden system folder or something where they might be getting generated?

You might want to look inside your OVA file...

If you don't want an archive, why do you specify one as your filename? If you click on the "Choose..." button you'll notice you can choose between an .ova and .ovf extension, so if you want a plain .ovf file you'll have to export one - or use your favourite TAR supporting packer to manipulate the .ova file...

Aha. I assumed the UI worked differently, and that triggering the correct exporter was not simply a matter of me manally typing in the file extension. Those checkboxes made me think that was all I needed to do.

Thank you,
