Guest OS Win XP can not able to ping company internal server

Post by mutar100 »

I have installed Win XP on MAC leopard . In the guest OS, I could able to connect to internet however, I can not ping any servers. Let's say I can visit the yahoo.com but ping to this site fails. Because of this I could not connect my company internal site from guest OS

I have chosed 'NAT' in the vistual bax network settings.
I need to do any network settings?... Please suggest

Am using Virtualbox 4.1.0 on MAC leopard.

Thanks in advance...

Ping is not a reliable way to check network connectivity any more. It is blocked by many firewalls.

Where is the company web site that you cannot see? Can you see it from the host? Is the host on a company network?

If you are on a company network and the host can see the website I would try using bridged networking.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the reply. My host is on company network. I cannot connect to any servers in guest OS, which I could able from Host OS.

Thanks

Then you should use bridged networking, not NAT.

I played with NAT, Bridged and Host-only networks.. Nothing seems worked out. Is there any manual setting I have to do in Vistual box.

It's more than likely that your IT department is what is stopping you. Most don't allow you to run a system they don't know about. I would ask them to see what conditions need to be met.

I contacted the IT team and they said you have to use static IP. I have the static IP, what is the adapter I need to check?... Is it bridged or NAT?... Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance..

At last, my problem was solved. I have loaded customized Windows XP which is not allowing me to connect intranet.

I have reloaded fresh version of Windows XP which is not customized. I have taken NAT network adapter and only entered the DNS servers address manually. It is supporting the Wired and wireless internet connections and working as expected, now I can able to connect intranet site from VirtualBox.

Bridged and Host only adapters are not worked for me. will do some research and share my inputs.
