Really simple problem while creating Windows XP

I am very new to Virtualbox and am creating a few of my first VM's. I created a Bactrack5 vm with no problems from an ISO, but I am having a really hard time creating a Windows XP VM. I downloaded a Windows XP .ISO from Microsoft's MSDNAA alliance from my school. I added the ISO to the VM under storage IDE Controler, but when I try to boot the VM it never starts windows and I get an error saying no bootable device was found. This seems like a really simple problem, but my searching for tutorials and youtube videos shows most people doing the same thing and it works.
I am also trying to do the same thing with a distribution of Linux from an .ISO and ran into the same problem. What is strange to me is that I did the same thing to create my Backtrack VM without any problems.
Any suggestions?
