0x80070057 Error when copying a file on Windows 7 Guest
Hello,
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with the latest VBox release. I've installed the extension pack and the guest additions and I run a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit guest. Today, I wanted to copy a file from my shared Ubuntu home folder to the guest OS.
However, this error pops up:
"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.
Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect."
I've googled the error code, but without results. I guess the error has something to do with VBox, so that's why I'm posting it here.
Thank you really much in advance for taking the time to read this post.

It's hard to say at this point what your problem is but that error is more than likely a Windows error. Whether the actual problem is related to VirtualBox is still to be determined.
You can however search MS support and see if it gives you any ideas. Put Error 0x80070057 in the advanced search here http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1

Re: 0x80070057 Error when copying a file on Windows 7 Guest
I have experienced the same problem upon updating to 4.1, with OS X host and Windows 7 64 bit guest (Win 2000 guest is fine). Can not access files on host via VBoxShare and get the above error code and message saying file(s) corrupt. The virtual box shared folder component appears to be the source of the problem because "regular" LAN access works fine.Perryg wrote:It's hard to say at this point what your problem is but that error is more than likely a Windows error. Reverted to 4.0.12 and everything works fine.

If you truly think that this is a VirtualBox issue then it should be reported to bugtracker. You will need to setup an account there as it is on a different system.
It would also help if you can post the ticket number here so other can see the progress, add information, or see the final results.
Don't forget to include (as an attachment) the guests log file.

Tried to register to make a bug report but the registration process wont allow the latest version number of 4.1 nor 4.0.12.
However I now note that a bug report has been made.

Re: 0x80070057 Error when copying a file on Windows 7 Guest
I have got the exact same issue and have made a bug-report for it.
Please report your issue there as well, as the devs can't seem to reproduce it.

For some reason when I try to register on Bug Tracker it wont accept the latest version (tried different browsers). Therefore unable to provide input.brhahlen wrote:I have got the exact same issue and have made a bug-report for it.

Please add this to the 9318 bug:
"Same problem upon updating to 4.1, with OS X host and Windows 7 64 bit guest (Win 2000 guest is fine). Can not copy or open files on host via VBoxShare and get the error code and message saying the file(s) trying to copy are corrupt. The virtual box shared folder component appears to be the source of the problem because "regular" LAN access works fine.
Within the Win 7 guest my set of mapped drives were listed as per normal but a duplicate set with different drive letter mapping were also generated when using 4.1.
Reverted to 4.0.12 and everything works fine."
Please note the problem is not confined to Linux host.
Thanks

I've reinstalled Windows 7 and I can successfully copy files from and to my shared folders. Really strange.

Re: 0x80070057 Error when copying a file on Windows 7 Guest
I can confirm that there are problems with a Linux host (Ubuntu 10.10) after upgrading from 4.0.12. In addition to the problems mentioned above, I have also experience BSOD on the guest OS (Windows 7 home prem). I re-installed 4.0.12 and have had no problems.

It's probably not updated yet, use 4.1.0 as version string. New major versions are always .0 releases.pshrutpark wrote:Tried to register to make a bug report but the registration process wont allow the latest version number of 4.1 nor 4.0.12.

Re: 0x80070057 Error when copying a file on Windows 7 Guest
I had this problem when I moved a Windows 7 VM image from VirtualBox 3 to Virtual 4. Resolution:
* Uninstall the Guest Additions using the windows 7 control panel
* Restart the VM
* Install guest additions applicable to the newer version of VirtualBox
* Restart the VM again
The problem went away for me then.

Re: 0x80070057 Error when copying a file on Windows 7 Guest
For what it's worth, I had the exact same issues as the aforementioned people — copying files over from a "shared" folder from my Mac OS X to a Windows 8 virtual machine served up with VirtualBox. Many files wouldn't copy over and returned an Error 0x80070057. I attempted just updating the Guest Additions to the latest version and the problem remained. Removing Guest Additions altogether resolved the issue. I was able to copy all of the files over to my PC image. If this isn't an issue with Guest Additions, I don't know what else it would be indicative of.retsil wrote:I had this problem when I moved a Windows 7 VM image from VirtualBox 3 to Virtual 4. I think the Oracle developers need to take another look at this add-on for VirtualBox.
