dual displays on Win7 Guest

I am using two displays on a Windows 7 64-bit guest on VB 4.1. Today I needed to switch my two monitors, as they are not the same, and do not present colors in the same intensity. After switching monitors (switching which was connected to which port on my card) I found that the two desktop windows stayed with the monitors, not with the ports. I eventually found a way to resolve the problem, but it appears that the virtual machine considers the original monitor 1 on the host to STILL be monitor 1, even though the host understands it to be monitor 2. Is there a way to untangle the logic of this?
