Server 2008 R2 problem

Post by Halomau »

Hello, I'm using Virtualbox for about a year and I'm happy with it. It's my first time that I tried to install a 64 bit OS on Virtualbox, but I'm having a trouble. :|

I'm trying to install Server 2008 R2 on my VirtualBox, but when i tried to install it, it shows me a message that my CPU is not compatible with 64bits.

I tried searching on Google and found tutorials, but i still can't install it. I've been looking in the Documentation and I found that I have to check the APIC & PAE/NX so I can install 64bits OS.

I'm using Virtualbox 4.0 on my Fedora 15 and Virtualbox 4.1 on my Windows 7, both OS are 64bits.

I'm not sure why I can't install Server 2008 because it's my first time that I have to install a 64bit OS on Virtualbox.

I hope you can help me to understand what's happening, but i still take a look on google and the documentation to install the server.

Thanks!!! :P

I'm searching google and it says that I have to enable HArdware virtualization so I can install a 64 bit OS, but I can't find 'VT-X' on Fedora, on Windows the 'Acceleration' tab doesn't seem to be active, I can see Acceleration tab but I can access it.

I'm gonna keep asking google about it. :D

Your CPU and bios on the host PC must support hardware virtualization and it must be turned on in the bios if it has it.

My PC doesn't support Harware Virtualization, i tried to check it on the BIOS but I was unable to find it. So I used this aplication:

http://www.grc.com/securable.htm

And it shows me the ugly truth about Hardware Virtualization, :(

That's too bad but thanks anyway, at least I know what to do if I want to install a 64 bits in Virtualbox.
