Hi.
I was using VB 4.0.x on a Windows 7 x64 Ultimate host and a Window 7 x32 Home Premium guest. A Canon LIDE 20 USB scanner is attached.
I defined a filter for a specific USB device in the USB section of VB where the scanner was shown and recognized by the virtual OS correctly.
Then I updated to 4.1.0, including extensions pack and installed the current guest additions.
The scanner isn't shown in the filter menu anymore. If I tried to add an empty filter and provide it with the parameters by hand, it won't work either. If I started VB and un-/replugged the scanner it will be recognized, shown in the filter nenu and worked properly within the guest OS. After restarting the (host) system, the scanner is gone again. I have to define the filter again using the described process. This is anoying.
What went wrong? What can I do to use the scanner again in more comfotably way? Thanks for any helpful suggestions.
n.b.: Just downgraded to 4.0.12 with appropriate guest additions and extension pack. Everything's fine.

Re: 4.1: USB scanner not recognized
Add your username to the vbox entry in /etc/group and reboot the host. Windows XP guest could not see my ipad until I added the entry and rebooted the host (Solaris 11). Now it works fine.

Hi Virtualtom,
The reply of rdhalstead does not apply to you, because you are using Windows 7 as host.
With regards to your problem, I can confirm the same faulty behaviour on VB 4.1.0 with my old Canon scanner and have opened a new bug report http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/9299.
The mentioned workaround with un-plug and re-plug of the scanner while the VM is active should be for the time being acceptable. It is not required to define the specific USB filter for the scanner again, if you save this filter in the configuration of your VM.

Re: 4.1: USB scanner not recognized
Not sure if this might be helpful but after i plugged in my scanner Virtualbox would not pull it up in the Devices > USB Devices.
Virtual box only saw my scanner after i shut down the Virtualbox manager and restarted it. Then it told me that it was installing the drivers for it.
its worth a shot.
