Reaching intranet from guest OS

Hello,
I am using VirtualBox-4.0.10-72479-Win.exe and Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.0.10-72436.vbox-extpack.
Host: MS Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit
Guest: MS Windows XP Professional SP3 32 bit
From the guest OS I can reach the internet via web browser; via the same browser and same guest OS I cannot reach the intranet (e.g. http://myintraneturl.html) of the place where I work. The same intranet is accessible via web browser from the host OS.
Can you help?
Thanks

Best Regards

N

Any stipulations from your IT department? Proxy, local DNS, Etc. ?

I met one of the IT guys which told me something about NAT and DNS, but I was not able to understand more (the chat was too quick and my experience not much high). I am trying to agree for a longer chat.
Any general suggestions in the meanwhile?

So far I solved by substituting http://PC_resolved_name/home.html with http://PC_IP_address/home.html
Don't know if it's the more elegant/efficient solution, but it works.

As I suspected, local DNS. You can always put the name & address in your hosts file. Then you can use the name.

That's elegant! I'll do that right now.
Thanks Perryg!
