Maatraan wrote:No no need to go partition installation and buy USB wireless Adapter. Just follow the below steps in your Virtual Box before starting Back Track.

Open Virtual Box -> Highlight Back Track OS -> Settings -> Network -> Adapter 1 or 2( desired) -> Make sure Enable network adapter check box is selected.

Options should be:

Attached To: Bridged Adapter

Name: Select your local Wifi adapter.

Drop down the Advanced option.

Adapter type: Select the option based on the work station you have.

Promiscuous Mode: Allow All

Cable connection check box should be checked in.

This is good but it only lets me use my WiFi as an ethernet connection. This means that it doesn't act like wifi so that I can perform wireless scanning from my guest machine.
There has got to be an easier/better way!
Anyways, I got it working in Backtrack5r3 with my old linksys wireless usb card. It shows up in airmon-ng as railink and works just as if it was running on real hardware.
Tried a atheros usb wifi but couldn't get it to work using same procedure which is basically same as above:
Open Virtual Box -> Highlight Back Track OS -> Settings -> Network -> Adapter 1 or 2( desired) -> Make sure Enable network adapter check box is selected.

Options should be:

Attached To: Bridged Adapter

Name: Select your local Wifi adapter.

Only thing not mentioned above that you need to do that hasn't been mentioned is that when you start up the virtual machine you need to quickly go to usb devices and select the wireless usb stick you are using from the list. If you don't do this it won't show up. Also, by doing this the wireless usb will disappear from windows or whatever your main os is as it seems that virtualbox give the guestos, in this case backtrack, complete control over the device!
If you type ifconfig it will show up as wlan0 as it should instead of eth0 and thus you can use iwconfig, airmon-ng, reaver and all the cool stuff to practice your wi-fi kung-fu inside VirtualBox

Like I said there has to be easier way since having to select and enable the usb device everytime you reboot is annoying and not being able to use it in your main os is annoying too unless you have multiple wifi usb sticks plugged in as I do.

Yes there is : Set a USB filter in the VM config that will take over your device when you start the VM and give it back when you're done.
The fact you are not able to use it in the host is simply due to the USB itself : USB devices CANNOT be shared. That's a USB limitation and not a Virtualbox one.

Virtualbox doesn't emulate wireless connection, only wired one.
So you'll need to get a USB wifi hardware and configure the VM like explained in my previous answer to this topic.
