NAT port forwarding, local only

Post by diolu »

I have setup Virtualbox on Windows XP host (linux guest). I use the NAT port forwarding (natpf option of vboxmanage) in order to connect to the Virtualbox machine from within the host (I ssh in it, I run a X server on the host, etc...). What I would like is that only local connection from the host are forwarded; I would like that connection from the outside world are blocked. Is there a possibility to manage that from within virtualbox? The only solution I have found now is to configure the firewall on the host (windows XP) in order to prevent any connection from the outside to connect to Virtualbox.

That is exactly what I would do. Don't think this is VirtualBox problem. NAT forwarding enables communication between host and guest. It does not control connection from outer network to your host, this is responsibility of firewall. If you have problems configuring Windows firewall, then download some free firewall instead and configure it.

As with everything else - use 127.0.0.1 as the host IP when forwarding? Works for me.
