@jbe,

The colors of anything in the guest are set within the guest. If it is not possible to change these colors then you would need to ask Microsoft why. VirtualBox has nothing to do with this.

Hi Perryg, thank you for your reply,
I understand that. And I already sent Microsoft an email, I will post the answer here when I get it, if it is usefull.

I can change the colour when I am using a non-virtualized Win7 system.
The menu simply works different, when using a virtualized system.

So my impression is that virtual box somehow is involved.

There must be someone who succesfully changed the colour of their menubar ...
I am really looking for someone to tell me that

It is simply not possible due to some blablabla ..
or
It is easy, just do this: blablablablablabla ;)

From what I see you have not installed the wddm drivers in the Windows 7 guest. If they are not installed you fall back to a Windows basic video and Windows does not allow you to change the areas you want to change. See screen shot below where I changed my colors to dark. Like I said the guest has control over that. On metal you have aero more than likely and as you can see it works the same in a Virtual Machine if the guest additions are installed (in the guest) and the wddm drivers (not 3D) selected on install.
