Hi All,

I want to know if i can start a vm without a vm name, a command like vmrun.exe start "image.vmx" (vmware player)

or something like this VBoxManage startvm "image.vbox"

Basicaly i want to start a vm using a file and avoid creating a vm.

Please let me know.

Thanks in Advance

What's the point of starting a non-existing VM? If you have the VM definitions file, what's the reason not to register it for future use and then start it by it's name, as it's supposed to be?

kumar, as far as I know you cannot do this with VirtualBox.

Sasquatch, how about this: pooled computer rooms. You could be in a room where the PC is wiped clean every time you log out and you are not allowed to have more than X GB (or MB) of data on your account, i.e.: your VM needs to be on an external drive. Or, you could be in a room where your account on a PC stays the same and you have enough space, but the next time you want to use that VM you need to use that specific PC. The easiest solution to all of these issues will be to have the ability to start a VM w/o registering it :)

The VM is quite portable now, so I see no reason for such a feature. If you do, then check out other software that does the same. But I doubt they would be as fast as VB.
