[Resloved]How to add or create network card E1000 ?

Post by tocri »

Hi,

I used virtualbox since long year now.
I'm working on Windows Deployement Service and when I want to bootpxe with an another macine, Vbox give me some errors.
I read, i will install Vbox additions...So, I downloaded this but after setup, the netword card E1000 was not here.

For now, i can't boot on pws with my virutalbox ?

Do you know how to add this network card ?

Thx

Why do you think you need the E1000? Are you reading a VMWare document? Why not use the Intel PRO/1000 MT which is installed by default?

Where is the WDS server? Is it in a vm? Where is the PXE boot client?

If you are using VirtualBox v4 you need to install the extension pack for PXE support.

First, thank you for your answers.

Wds 2008 is a Vbox Virtualmachine with bridged mode (for the network card)

The pxe boot client was a virtualbox machine with bridged mode. I try all networks card but and for all, when i want to boot pxe, the loader run and the boot failed with an error like "hardware error...tcp".

So i try with a Hard PC and it works. I install the extension pack but nothing change. :(

I try wmware workstation and it's work but vmware is terribly slow. I prefer virtualbox ;)

I have made a video to explain what is my problem.

I have vbox 4.10. I tried with 4.1 Beta but my windows host (Win 2008) reboot all the times so i go back to 4.0.10.

To see the video

http://aatogether.free.fr/vbox.exe

It's an exe with no virus. The video was made from adobe captivate.

Create the video in a normal format. If you can't host such files, put it on Youtube. Sending .exe files makes you think the whole world runs on Windows, while in fact it doesn't. If you want help, use formats that are usable on all platforms.

You're too shortsighted to think that Wine solves everything. It doesn't. You would still lock out Mac users and users who run Solaris or *BSD. They don't want to compile wine just to watch a video you created.

The error you get, did you Google on the file that's mentioned? Does it work on bare metal?

If a bare metal system works with your PXE boot, then it might be a bug and you can address it in the Bugtracker (separate account needed). Try the beta of 4.1 and you'll know if it solves it or not. You can return to 4.0 without issues.

I set up WDS on a freshly installed Server 2008 R2 system (using the default settings) under 4.0.10 yesterday and it works fine.

It's working now...the problem came from the amount of memory I gave to my XP virtual machine - 128 mo.

Today, i tried with 1024 mo and finally it work...ouffff.

Thks 4 your support

Well that explains a lot. You have to have enough RAM to fit the PXE image in uncompressed format. Since modern PCs have at least 256, but 512 is more common,
they don't have a problem booting that way. You gave the VM 128 MB and you're trying to PXE a Windows Vista/7 install, so it's not that odd that you got the corruption/error.
