Installing System 8 on OS X Virtual Box

Post by lokichaotico »

Hey all. I am running Virtualbox on the current version of Snow Leopard and am wondering if it is possible to install Mac OS 8 or earlier on a virtual drive. I have some old software that will not run on OS X and would love to have access to it again. I searched the forums for a good hour and did some google searches and have found nothing. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
Mike

No. VirtualBox will only run an OS written for Intel processors and Mac OS 8 was written for PowerPC. You best bet would be to do a Google search for SheepShaver and see if that will do what you want.

Actually, there is a Mac OS 8 emulator for MS-DOS called Fusion. Check these links to learn more (the E-maculation one has a DOSBox tutorial, but since DOSBox is technically an MS-DOS emulator, you can do it in MS-DOS too).
