VM menus disappear in fullscreen mode - Ubuntu guest
Hi,
When I go into full-screen mode on my Ubuntu guest, the VB menus (Machine, Devices,Help) disappear.
That is, I know they're supposed to disappear, but when I hover my mouse at the bottom-center of the screen, they don't pop-up as they should.
I can access them on the Ubuntu log-in screen, but when my desktop opens, they hide and won't come back. I know most of the Host key shortcuts now, but I'd prefer the menus.
Any ideas, anyone?
Russell

It's not the toolbar, but if you hit Host+Home you'll get a pop-up menu with the contents of the toolbar.ratworks wrote:I can access them on the Ubuntu log-in screen, but when my desktop opens, they hide and won't come back. I know most of the Host key shortcuts now, but I'd prefer the menus.

It should also pop up if you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen.

Works for me - in fullscreen I get a pop-up menu in the center of the screen, and in windowed mode it drops down the "Machine" menu...bedrock wrote:Host + Home does not produce any menu for me when in full screen mode

Re: VM menus disappear in fullscreen mode - Ubuntu guest
I have the same problem as the initial poster.
Windows 7 host, VirtualBox 4.1.8, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS guest with the most recent kernel and guest add-ons.
When switching to fullscreen, the mini toolbar never shows up, and Host+Home doesn't give any menu. The mini toolbar shows up when I switch to seamless mode, and it works in another older guest I have, that's running Arch linux.
The Mini ToolBar is enabled in the settings for both guests.
EDIT:
Did some more research. At default, Ubuntu is in a "Normal visual effects" mode. When I switch to "No visual effects" (which probably means no compiz), the menu works. When I then switch back to "Normal" effects, it still works, but with slight graphical corruptions. Switching to Windows and then back to the fullscreen Ubuntu now breaks, and the Ubuntu guest now no longer updates its screen.
Something seems to be up/down with the guest, perhaps the guest add-ons?

I have the same problem here. Host is Win7 64-bit and it happens on any guest OS with a compositing window manager.

Re: VM menus disappear in fullscreen mode - Ubuntu guest
I am having the same issue. In fullscreen mode the bottom menu completely disappears -- the thin bar that indicates you can mouse over for a menu is also not present. When I mouse over the bottom of the screen nothing happens.
Additional weirdness happens with Windows when I try to switch out of the Virtualbox window. Pressing the Host key does nothing, and sometimes it makes the mouse interact with Windows but the screen still displays linux. I have accidentally closed a window in Windows while the screen looked like Ubuntu.
Host OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Guest OS: Ubuntu 14.04.1
Virtualbox version: 4.3.20
This exists as a long standing issue with Virtualbox: virtualbox ticket 9775

I very much doubt that an issue from 2012 is relevant in VirtualBox 4.3.20. Please start a new topic and describe your problem properly, being sure to include Minimum information needed for assistance.
