can't find guest additions file here http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads or here http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

just see this mention "Note: After upgrading VirtualBox it is recommended to upgrade the guest additions as well."

I've not had the best of luck in upgrading 4.0.8 to this release on a host running W7 SP1 X86 despite not having similar problems with earlier revisions.

It looks to me like the install did work (files are updated), but near the end, apparently when it was doing the network portion (I have Bridge selected in the install), the system BSOD'd:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x0000000a 0xaa088317 0x00000002 0x00000001 0x8317aa08 NETIO.SYS

After the reboot, I tried it again, but:
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0x000000d1 0x0d51a010 0x00000002 0x00000001 0x86006f59 ndis.sys

Very minor niggle: Using "Devices>Install Guest Additions" worked perfectly in the new 4.0.10 release, running on a Ubuntu 10.4 host. Then I thought to check which version of Guest Additions I had installed, by opening the "Add/Remove Programs" dialogue in my Windows 2000 Guest. On the entry under "Oracle VM VirtualBox Guest Additions" there is a hyperlink to "Support Information" Clicking this brings up a small window with the title "Support Info", at the bottom is a button captioned "Close". Clicking this button has no effect.

I'm sure someone will tell me if I should have posted this elsewhere!

Guest Additions are shipped with the installer, there is no reason to download them separately. And if you didn't see them yesterday, it means that it was being uploaded at the time. Always have some patience when a new version is released. People are so impatient these days .

Thanks for this maintenance release. I've just successfully upgraded from 4.0.4 to 4.0.10 under openSUSE 11.0 and Windows 7 - both x86_64 systems. All my guests are running without problems.

I've delayed the upgrade process due to reported and experienced problems with versions 4.0.6 and 4.0.8. Worst problem to me was the break of my host (not guest) USB system with 4.0.6 making it e.g. impossible to use any USB stick on my host. The 4.0.10 release obviously tends to gain the known stability of the 3.2.x version.

It would be nice, if the future development of VirtualBox could split up into stable and testing branches. This could help me to more predictably spend my time in testing and giving feedback to the developers of this very nice, flexible and portable virtualization software.

setting IfPolicyPromisc does not work on 4.0.10, windows 7 host, linux guest:

from cli, my image looks fine:
vboxmanage getextradata DBFW /VBoxInternal/Devices/e1000/1/LUN#0/Config/IfPolicyPromisc
Value: allow-all

but when this image boots, it logs this to VBox.log:

00:00:01.848 [/Devices/e1000/1/LUN#0/Config/] (level 5)
00:00:01.848 IfPolicyPromisc <string> = "deny" (cb=5)

any ideas on this?

the issue is with the leading / at /VBoxInternal/Devices/e1000/1/LUN#0/Config/IfPolicyPromisc.
it should be without, when setting up IfPolicyPromisc.
so
vboxmanage setextradata DBFW VBoxInternal/Devices/e1000/1/LUN#0/Config/IfPolicyPromisc "allow-all" is the correct way to set it
my fault :)

Perhaps it requires more than can go in a maintenance release?

Or, more simply, that fix is not considered as much worthy/important/urgent as others, thus becoming part of the considerable array of tickets which remain "open" for a... very long time.

Obviously this is not a controversial remark. Just an objective consideration. There's no right of "complaining" about the developers' decisions, especially if using this useful program free of charge.
