frenck keybord on linux red hat guest terminal

Post by giltfr »

Hi,
I've installed linux guest vm ( version 4.0.8 ) and it's start up correctly. I added an Oracle Prebuilt VM.
when trying to log on linux with the user oracle/oracle, I have US keyboard (mining I have to press 'q' to have an 'a')

I connected nevertheless on linux VM, and launched a terminal, and steel have US keyboard mapping

My question is : 'how can i have a frenck keyboard'.

I know, one way to change this in Linux Red Hat is to change the 'KEYTABLE' value in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard from
'us' to 'fr-latin1' but as this is a file owned by root and I don't have the root password, it's impossible to change this value.

Can someone, please tell me how to handle this problem

Thanks

If you're talking about the GUI of Red Hat, then change it in the Keyboard Settings. Should be easy to find.
If you don't have the root password, do you have root access through the use of sudo? Then you can change the file too.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply but none of both advises worked.

On the Red Hat GUI, I change my default language to french and still have the problem. When typing my username/password, I presssed 'a' and obtain 'q' and vice versa.

In Linux terminal I succeded to change KEYTABLE from 'us' to 'fr-latin1', rebooted my linux VM but still have the same behavior (ie qwerty keyboard instead of azerty keyboard)

Regards
