W7 video display problems

I? running W7 home edition as a guest on Fedora 15 Dell XPS 15 L502x. When i first installed W7 (without 3D from guest additions but enabled in settings) i could watch video with windows media player etc,,watch silverlight full screen and use the webcam. I had a lot of problems installing SP 1 but finally succeeded. Got Aero never working, but didn't mind much about that. After some windows updates (,Net 4 nd 3.5?) video wasn't working anymore, tried everything, including getting back to restorepoints but finally mocked up the system. So i decided to do a fresh install. But with the fresh install I encounter the same problems from the beginning (maybe due to the auto-update).

What do i have to do to get video, webcam working in in the guest? Do i have to enable 3D, 2D accelaration from the beginning or later?

The 3D and 2D setting don't really matter if you enable it later or not. They only work after you've installed the Guest Additions in safe mode anyway. That being said, you can start with a fresh installation, make a snapshot, then install the GA and see if video still works. Then you install SP1 after you made a snapshot and see if video still works. If it does, you can merge the snapshots back into the base so you start with a clean snapshot tree again. Then you install an update at a time, checking the working of video and webcam each time until you find the update that's the problem. Restore to the snapshot you ended up with after the SP1 install and skip the update that caused the problem.
If it is .NET framework, you can skip them until you really have to install it for software that's written in it.
