After Windows Update (to .NET) can't boot XP Guest

I have an XP Pro guest which was working OK. I ran Windows Update today, which installed two .NET 4 security fixes and a .NET 2.5 fix.

Now when I boot Windows it freezes at the "Windows XP" graphical screen with a perpetually flickering progress bar but no, you know, progress. Safe mode works but safe mode with networking does not. I discovered through experimentation that it will boot OK if I disable networking devices, or if I remove the Guest Additions, but not with Guest Additions installed and networking turned on.

Are the current Additions incompatible with MS's latest .NET fix? Any suggestions?

Using version 4.08 of both VB and the Additions on a Debian GNU/Linux host (wheezy).

I have the same issue. It appears in both my Windows 7 and Windows XP guest systems and continuously causes problems. I can confirm that uninstalling the guest additions allows the systems to boot again.

Is there any known fix or workaround for this issue?

What version of VirtualBox are you using and do the guest additions match the version you are using?
You can also post the guests log file (as an attachment)
