Hello. I've searched and read a few different set of directions in relation to setting up shared folders between a host machine and guest machine. None of them have worked for me. I'm guessing I've messing up somewhere.

Here's what I want to do: I have some files on my Guest Machine (Windows XP) that I would like to transfer to my Host Machine (Windows 7).

I've gone into the settings of Virtualbox and set up a folder and selected it to be permanent. The name of the folder is "machine".

I thought the folder would show up under "my computer" on the guest machine but its not. Not sure what to do.

Mount the folder in virtualbox. Don't tick automount. In guest system, open cmd and write:

net use z: \\VBOXSRV\Insert_Folder_Name_With_Underscore /persistent:yes

Or

net use z: \\VBOXSRV\Insert_Folder_Name_With_Underscore

I did it a little differently though, and this is for anyone who might stumble upon this thread.

I created a folder on my host machine labeled "machine" and then went into VirtualBox Manager (where you start the guest OS from) and created a folder called "machine" there too (under the settings tab --> shared folder tab).

Started up the guest OS and then went to "run" under start button. Typed in cmd and hit run and then typed in this: "net use x: \\vboxsvr\machine". After that I put the file\folders into the drive under "my computer" on the guest OS. I then dragged that file from the drive onto the desktop of my host OS and it put it in the folder labeled "machine_folder". The machine folder that I created on the host OS I created on the desktop.
