Hey what's up guys?

I've been trying to figure out how to connect my USB external hard drive to my Virtual Box Virtual Machine and am having a lot of trouble with it. I have tried other suggestions on this forum such as changing the USB settings on my Virtual Machine but I'm still having issues.

My host computer is an iMac with OS X 10.6.7. I am running Windows XP with SP 3 in Virtual Box. Everything runs fine and smooth, I just have a lot of files and programs I'd like to bring into Windows but I can't get the drive to connect. Every time I connect the drive to my iMac, the Mac picks it up but not Windows. This is a big problem for me and any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Try Shared Folders for this drive. Works better and faster than USB Access.

Ok thank you, I'll try that out.

When you say the drive do you mean the external hard drive?

I'm new to Virtual Box and the whole concept behind it so if you can offer more details I'd really appreciate it.

I managed to go to Shared Folders in the Settings of my Virtual Machine and select my Hard Drive. Only issue is that I can't figure out how to access the drive while in Windows on my VM

Can anyone help?

Either using a shared folder or telling me how to hook up my HD would be a big help

A shared folder is accessible by both OSes. This way you can put documents into the shared folder and access it from both OSes. Read the manual about Shared Folders for more information.

Still having trouble even with the manual.

If anyone can explain this in simple terms I would really appreciate it.

I went into the Settings for my Virtual Machine and selected two folders to share (one being the USB external HD, the other being a folder in my Documents, both on the Host side). Still no luck. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place for these shared folders in my VM? Any and all help is appreciated. Let me know where to find the Shared Folders on the VM side

Look in "My Network Places" inside the VM. You should be able to browse to "VBoxSVR" and then to the share names. And please ask such questions in "Windows Guests" in future.
