Host- Windows Vista
Dual 2.5 processors
2 gig memory
1 - 250 gig HD & 1 - 2TB
I searched and couldn't find my answer.
I am trying to install Win98 through the tutorial I found on this site.
I was able to fdisk my VM just fine, but in trying to format c:, I couldn't do so.
I am trying to install the OS with the switch suggested.
I am unable to copy my install folders to c:, I am guessing because it is not formatted.
I am able to install directly from the cd, but that does cause my processor to be used a 100% when the vm is used.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Daljaxon

Re: I need a little advice with win98 dos commands
I dug around the web and found a win98boot.iso in which I added as my first cd device "E:" and my win98 cd as "F:"
Copied win98 to "C" drive and installed with the parameters /p j.
I will see if I understand the suggestions well enough.
I should have not gave up and posted yet, but kept searching.
Thanks

You should be able to install windows 98 directly from the cd.

Not really (at all). Some CDs work, mostly not. Was the first OS from MS with this function. But not the first and not all other editions.bowyia wrote:You should be able to install windows 98 directly from the cd.

Re: I need a little advice with win98 dos commands
Win98 did not install directly from CD. It booted from the floppy boot disk to allow you to install DOS. You could then fdisk the hard drive from DOS.
win98boot.iso is a cd version of the boot disk. Attach this iso to the cd drive of your vm. Set the vm to boot from CD and start the vm. You will now see the the same screen that you would see if you booted from the Win98 boot floppy. Select the default option to install with CD support.
After the messages you are at the A: prompt. Change to the C: prompt and run fdisk to prepare your hard drive for installation and format the partition. When you have partitioned and formatted the c: drive you should be able to install Win98 from a CD or an iso.
