Can't install "VirtualBox ExtensionPack-4.0.8-71778.vbox-ext

Virtual Box v4.0.8-71778 (for Windows)

Hi,

I am trying to install 'VirtualBox ExtensionPack-4.0.8-71778.vbox-extpack', which I've just downloaded from the website, so that I can get USB 2.0 support for a Virtual Machine. However when double-click to launch the pack get the following error message:

Failed to open the extension pack [path details]

Details:
Extension pack name mismatch between the downloaded file and the XML inside it (xml='Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack' file='VirtualBox')

By my reading the message seems to be suggesting that there is some kind of problem with the install file itself.

Whatever the case, does anyone know how I get beyond the error message?

Also you can not rename the file. The full name should be Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.0.8-71778.vbox-extpack

I have tried the way suggested by the link you provided. Doing so I get indentical error message to the one shown above.

I have also tried using the command line shown on that webpage (though in Windows, not Linux). Line entered and error messages generated were as shown here:

Command Line Entered >> vboxmanage.exe extpack install "F:\VirtualBox ExtensionPack-4.0.8-71778.vbox-extpack"

At my level of expertise that was meaningless to me.

Then I tried 'dummy re-download' of the extpack from the website. At the dialogue just copied the file name then renamed the file I already had to:

Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-4.0.8-71778.vbox-extpack

Then tried install of pack again. You were right. I had renamed the file on download and had forgotten that I had done so.
