Activation of XP on Linux problem

Hello,

I have oracle vitualbox 4.0.8 latest. Been using vb for a long time and moved my .vitualbox folder to other drives when redoing linux etc.. then putting it back. No issues. However, I just installed a new version 4.0.8 and and the new guest additions and now winxp is saying that the hardware has changed and wants a re-activation. I went to reactivate, just as you would normally do, called MS, spelled out the numbers they were giving me on the screen to them, and when it came time to enter new numbers they told me that it was not a product of theirs. They didn't send me to a live operator to sort the issue. Just hung up and told me to go to their support on the windows site. I did, and I didn't find anyting of use that worked.

I have WinXP Pro retail purchased in October 15, 2001. I did update the windows from within vb to service pack 3 prior to this popping up.

I don't use windows on anything else besides a virtualbox. I have no dedicated win machines, no dual boots, nothing. Just this one intance on a vb. How do you go about having winxp recognise the installation as MS is saying that the numbers that are generated are invalid? I tried their key software, etc.. none of it worked. And just copying over my .virtualbox directory with all the old install on it is still wanting me to activate.

Well, this is why I will never again in my life purchase another microsoft product, and haven't since XP. But... I did purchase it, and I should be able to use it indefinately without having to worry about them not liking the vitualbox guest addistions changes. I told myself in 2001 when I first installed this that I would never again purchase another product from MS. And to date, I have and will not due to this garbage.

Any help appreciated. Main machine is Linux with oracle vb 4.08 w/guest addistions, and winXP running in it.

Thanks

We cant help you, you have it to acivate with MS. This is the same as on a real Machine, so no VBOX Problem.

Okay, thank you anyhow. Appreciated.

Contacted MS by phone, received a new product key from the second person after the first person tried to sell me Windows 7 and hung up after I mentioned that I wasn't interested, all is well for the time being until it happens again as it has for the last 10 years. What will be more less enjoyable is when you won't be able to contact MS by phone about XP and be able to talk to a person as I had just done. The second person was very professional and resolved the issues. And of course I understand this was not an issue with virtualbox per se, however, it is one issue that will occur over time as vitualbox and it's extensions are upgraded. I suppose when it's a true end of life for XP, it will be an absolute end of life ms user on this end. No doubt about it. Never again.

Have a good one.
